In the electronics industry, it often seems like everyone is pretty much suing everyone over something, somewhere

This morning, it was reported that Sony Corporation has filed a patent lawsuit against LG Electronics in the U.S. District Court in the Central District of California; the lawsuit is actually aimed at two separate subsidiaries of LG.

There have been reports that state that Sony is attempting to block LG’s mobile phones from entering the US on the basis that phones like the LG’s Lotus Elite, Neon, Remarq, Rumor 2 and Xenon use Sony technology.

In the claim filing at the International Trade Commission, Sony stated that LG violated the US trade rules by importing mobile phones and modems that infringed Sony patents.

Sony further noted that LG also infringed patents of some of its licensees, including the Sony Ericsson joint venture; Samsung and Nokia, further adding that the patent infringement relates to more than 10 phones, including the Encore; LG Accolade; Neon; Quantum; Rumor Touch; and others.

The complaint would ban the sales of the phones in the US without a royalty deal or a settlement.

LG, South Korea’s fourth-largest conglomerate, said in a statement this month that it is trying to expand its major businesses, including smart phones and that it wants to raise sales in 2011 by 11 percent.
